Moses Kai

Moses Kai currently serves as the Director of Utilities - Power Systems, Controls & Operational Technology for the University of Texas at Austin’s Utilities and Energy Management (UEM) department.  He has worked for the University for 13 years, serving in various capacities, most recently as Assistant Director of Electrical Distribution before starting his current role. 

He specialized in power systems analysis, protection, distribution, and power quality.  Prior to joining UT, Moses served as a technical lead engineer, performing analyses for multiple university and industrial clients globally.   

His passion for power systems protection, power quality, and renewable energy extends beyond his operational roles as evident in his additional work as a lecturer for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UT Austin. Furthermore, he has presented at IEEE and Eaton Corporation seminars on topics such as Observations from the Texas Synchrophasor Network, Harmonics, and Switching Transients.  

As a consultant, Moses has helped customers across Texas in their electrical power quality concerns, electrical infrastructure design, and power system studies. 

Moses earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. 

Moses is currently working on the electrical infrastructure for multiple new construction, renovations, and expansions on campus as well as multiple UEM initiatives.
