Juan Ontiveros, associate vice president for Utilities, Energy, and Facilities Management for The University of Texas at Austin, has been selected as the first individual recipient of the Robert W. Galvin Award for Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER). This U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) award was presented to Ontiveros at the Greenbuild Leadership Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on November 19, 2015.

UT Austin secures nearly $1.4 million from 179D tax deduction allocations

The University of Texas at Austin announced today that it has received $1,377,682 from Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) related to an allocation of federal tax deductions derived from construction of the university’s energy efficient Thermal Energy Storage system. Efficiency Energy, LLC, assisted with obtaining the deduction and allocation. Juan Ontiveros, associate vice president of Utilities and Energy Management at the university, said, “We build and renovate our facilities to save energy, and we can reinvest these dollars in those efforts.”

On October 17, The Carl J. Eckhardt Heating & Power Complex received the Combined Cycle Journal’s (CCJ) 2012 Pacesetter Plant Award during the organization’s annual conference in Florida. The award recognizes the plant for its outstanding achievements in reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions.

On April 30, 2008, The University of Texas at Austin’s Power Plant was recognized by Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Every spring, TCEQ honors citizens, organizations, communities, and others who have developed projects that protect our state’s natural resources.

Dr. Pat Clubb, vice president for Employee and Campus Services, and Juan Ontiveros, executive director of Utilities and Energy Management, accepted the Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA) in the Large Business/Technical category for the university’s energy innovations.
